Calcium silicon
Calcium silicon is a ferroalloy composed of 30% calcium and 60% silicon and is mainly used in the iron refining process to remove gases such as oxygen and non-metallic inclusions. Because it is lighter than other ferroalloys, it is added to molten metal in powdered form, blown in with gas or injected in the form of powder-filled cored wire. It is also widely used in powder form as an inoculant for iron casting.
